Doing Good in the Neighborhood – Run For Courage

Ashlie (Montgomery) Bryant (Delta Chi, UC Davis) and Sue (Bischoff) Mackin (Gamma Lambda, CSU Fresno), both of El Dorado Hills, in 2010 learned that child sex trafficking was a growing problem in California when the daughter of a mutual friend was abducted and trafficked for eight days. Through that experience, they learned that Sacramento is a regional hub for the trafficking of children ages 11-18. While many wonderful organizations work with sexually exploited youth in California, there are alarmingly few that provide facilities for treating and rehabilitating victims of this crime.

The Race To End Sex Trafficking Team!

In 2010, Run for Courage held its first 5K/10K race in Folsom. Local businesses contributed sponsorships and 726 runners participated in raising $41,000 for a local restoration home. The 2011 race brought over 1700 runners and raised over $100,000. Proceeds from the 2011 run will be given to four specific beneficiaries: Agape International Missions (an international organization in Cambodia), A New Day for Children (California), Courage to Be You (California), WIND Youth Services (Sacramento).

Ashlie and Sue, along with friends, founded Run For Courage, Inc (RFC). RFC is a nonprofit organization based in El Dorado Hills that hosts 5K and 10K runs to raise awareness and money to support organizations providing restoration services for victims of this horrible crime. Proceeds go to select programs and/or organizations that work directly with victims to help them recover and eventually lead productive and independent lives. “Every race we host gives us another opportunity to raise awareness in the community and provide financial support to those organizations helping restore these precious young victims,” Ashlie said.

Ashlie, Sue and their team are planning for 2012 & working to expand RFC races in other cities.

Open Position: Panhellenic Chair

The purpose of all Alumnae Panhellenics is to inform fraternity women of current trends, to promote the fraternity system, to improve the panhellenic image and to stimulate a continuing interest in Panhellenic affairs. The Panhellenic delegate supports and strengthens both Delta Gamma and fraternities in general by encouraging a cooperative relationship and an exchange of ideas, programs and information among alumnae Panhellenic groups in the community. This is a great position for someone who would like to be involved with the Board.

For more information about this position, please contact our President.
